Who We Are

The Student Technology Council (STC) is a twelve-member student-led organization that was created in 2009 to give students a voice in campus technology matters. The STC aims to identify and address student technology needs on campus and promote creative use of student technologies through our projects. These projects include application development events for both web and mobile, student application distribution on the App Store, showcasing student created projects through competitions and contests, and providing support with student software downloads.

Job Summary

This semester STC is recruiting for students specifically interested in design and/or event planning roles.The position requires attendance at weekly meetings, plus document creation and collaboration during meeting work sessions. However, most of your time will be spent working on your projects individually or with team members, helping run STC events, and in general making sure you are prepared to share your work at our meetings.

Job Roles / Responsibilities:

Graphic Design

  • Develop infographics, logos, and images for multiple projects / partnerships

  • Create flyers and other print materials to support events, annual recruitment, mobile app distribution, etc.

  • Design and create graphics for social media posts on facebook and instagram

Event Planning

  • Plan activities related to events sponsored or co-sponsored by STC

  • Monitor the progress of activities and tasks related to events

  • Arrange room reservations and work closely with appropriate administrative staff to coordinate logistic needs

Key Qualifications  

  • A passion for technology and education

  • A self-starter able to work independently, and to problem solve and request assistance when necessary

  • Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize based on importance

  • Basic technical skills, we use Google Docs and Drive

  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign for students interested in a graphic design role

  • Strong communication skills, able to articulate your ideas to STC members and campus leadership

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Proven teamwork experience and ability to work effectively with diverse groups

  • Students interested in the graphic design role must provide a portfolio of sample work

  • Priority may be given to those who can commit to more than one academic year

Employment Terms

  • The period of employment commences upon hire and continues at least through the end of the 2017-2018 academic year

  • The position is paid a wage of $15.00/hr

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at UC Berkeley

  • STC members are expected to work between 6-10 hours per week

  • Attendance at weekly meetings (TBD) is mandatory during the school year

  • Work-Study eligible students encouraged to apply
